25 Random Secrets of My Inspired Life

The Post that Inspired This Post on My Inspired Life

Inspired LifeThis post about my inspired life was inspired by Janet Callaway from The Natural Networker. In October 2011, she wrote a post on 25 Random Things about Me. It was through this post that I found out many more things about this wonderful blogger. Hence, I thought why not post something like that and let my readers know me better.

Enjoy my 25 Random Secrets of My Inspired Life

  1. I grew up with three other siblings in the early years of my inspired life. I am the second of four children and my two younger brothers are twins. The only thing I can say about my three brothers is that we are not emotionally attached but when the time came to help each other we are always there.
  2. I use to live in a Kampong. That’s a rural village that is very small. My only memory of this was when I pulled out a shit bucket right under another person using it. That I would like to delete from my inspired life.
  3. I used to help my father sell food. Specifically, we sold satay and chicken rice coffee shop foods over a period of 15 years. My father never made it big in the food business but the lessons and fun from helping out, I will always remember.
  4. I read military history widely when I was young. In school, my reading habits took after my father. He was always reading all these military history books, and I came to enjoy them. My favorite General was General Erwin Rommel.
  5. My family is in a line of Christian school. My grandfather and father came from St. Andrew’s School. Naturally my elder brother and I followed suit. But because of some school restriction to enrolment, my twin brothers could not follow.
  6. I was from a lower stream education class. My school system streamed me to a less able education stream when I went into high school. But I showed them better when I topped my class the following year.
  7. I have been teaching sports for 15 years. My main training was in physical education and sports. It was a good period of learning in my inspired life.
  8. I used to be a serial drinker. This period started very badly in my national service days when beers were cheap and abundant in camp. We drank and made merry. I carried this habit for the next 15 years. Some of my more forgettable days from this period included puking over my room mate’s university assignment on the day of submission.
  9. I am a divorcee. My first marriage was over after 1 year of marriage. Got into the wrong relationship and just had to leave.
  10. I seduced my wife in school. Shortly after divorce, I was send to another school for an examination assignment. There I saw a very attractive lady who had character. As her supervisor I took advantage of my connections to drop her love notes and my phone numbers. She replied my message and the rest was history. We are happily married with two kids now.
  11. I had kids before getting married. Did I mention this in the last point? Raging hormones led to our kids while my divorce was still ongoing. Everything is finally over now and we are looking forward to a new beginning.
  12. My greatest sport and adventure love is skiing. I went on a trip to Big Sky Montana more than ten years back with my brothers and some friends. It was with one of those timeshare packages. When we hit the slopes, I was instantly hooked. Since, then, I have gone back to ski as often as I can. So far, I have skied at Lake Tahoe, Whistler, Big Sky and Salt Lake City. My dream is to ski with my family every Christmas time.
  13. Together with my skiing trips, I enjoyed my road trips immensely. When driving long distances, there is a sense of freedom and richness in those moments of my inspired life that is hard to explain.
  14. In national service, I was commissioned as an officer. Not only that, I topped the entire cohort of 400 cadets and won the prestige Sword of Honor Award. This was something unexpected and I love this part of my inspired life.
  15. I always enjoyed been the glue for many of my friendships. One of my favorite activities is to organize get together functions for my various friendship groups when many others have forgotten about each other.
  16. I am a fan of the big four American sports. My peers in Singapore are crazy about English and European Soccer, but for me there has always been that appeal in the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB. I think there is something about the way spectator sports is presented in North America that draws me.
  17. I want to meet Richard Branson one day. As mentioned in my earlier post Why Does Sir Richard Branson Inspire Me?, he is my role model and I would like to position myself to meet this special person one day.
  18. I used to fear public speaking. This period of fear lasted 35 years of my life. I was never told that I could speak. But due to my own personal development journey, I have become someone who craves for public speaking opportunities.
  19. I have a personal development dream to change the world. My work with Life Architects is part of a bigger goal to change the world through personal development. I see a world where something can be done to improve the lives of our people.
  20. I discovered my gifts in writing and communication late. Like public speaking this came naturally after I explore these wonder skills and started believing in myself and not listening to all the Dr. Nos out there.
  21. I have potential intuitive gifts. There was one psychic reader that once told me that I had this potential in my inspired life. Since than I have been actively working out my intuitive muscles.
  22. I am trained in NLP. I call this the science of the obvious. But NLP training has made me more aware of these obvious skills that we use all the time. It has also allowed me to handle my own destiny better. NLP is a big component of my coaching.
  23. In all that I do, I believe in the service of others that will bring me all that I need in this world. My mission is to be used for the betterment of society.
  24. I want to build a library of personal development books in my future home so that people that come across my life will be richly rewarded in our associations.
  25. I am living a life of two halves. The first uneventful halve of my inspired life has just ended two years ago. Half time is over and my second half of destiny in my own hands has just begun.

  1. Hello My Friend Jimmy,

How fun to get to know you here…..isn’t life amazing and how it takes us from one place to another in adventure after adventure.

“Challenges makes life interesting; overcoming them makes life meaningful”……

This one is my favorite: 19. I have a personal development dream to change the world. My work with Life Architects is part of a bigger goal to change the world through personal development. I see a world where something can be done to improve the lives of our people.

You are an instrument for world change my friend – I believe the world CAN be changed via personal development and glad I’m part of this world too!

    Living in the possibilities,

    • Hello Nancy,

Hope you have found out more things about me now.

When I was younger, I used to dislike sharing personal things with others. Look how life has changed now. All because I treat all that had happened as something I could learn something from. Our experiences are truly the greatest form of education.

Living in this world with great support and encouragement from people like you is certainly something great to behold.

  2. Hi Jimmy,

Great list you have put together!

I too am a big fan of military history, but I tend to prefer the medieval ages, in particular Byzantine and Ottoman history. I also like Japanese and Chinese history. Erwim Rommel is one of my favourite generals, but I prefer Mori Motonari at the moment. I prize creativity in generalship.

While generals are cool, I prefer to read about rulers because they have more on their plate. The burden of rule is heavy and every single choice they make has grave consequences on the lives of many. It is probably this fascination with making the best choices that guides my interest in divination and vice versa.

Thank you for sharing this lovely article!

    • Hi Irving,

I should have guessed from your gravatar that you are military man too. Oh well, that does not matter now. At least we know we share something common that we can talk about more.

Personally for me, I have always been fascinated with the history and figures of the Second World War. It is probably because I had this exposure early. Distance history I find it difficult to keep up with. And ancient Chinese history is something I cannot understand as well because there are just too many Chinese characters in the readings.

  3. Jimmy,

I like these write ups. It is so interesting to find out more about the people you meet online.

I like the fact that you have lived life, made some mistakes and grown from them. In personal development, I think this is a a big thing. Nothing teaches better than experience and it helps you relate to people who are where you WERE.

    Anyhow, an entertaining read! :)

    • Hi Steve,

Yes, this type of write ups is always interesting for both readers and writers. For me, when I was writing, I was also doing a lot of recalling and reflection about my life. The journey was one of memories and connectedness. Without this type of writing, we often are too lazy to force ourselves to think about our own life.

  4. Cool, man.

I love to get to know the person behind the blog. This part in particular made me laugh: “My only memory of this was when I pulled out a shit bucket right under another person using it. That I would like to delete from my inspired life.”

Why on earth did you do that? I’m assuming you were a little kid, LOL!
Fred Tracy recently posted..How Powerful Is Your Reality? My Profile (dofollow)

    • Haha Fred,

Knowing you, I was sure that the shit bucket incident will make you laugh. As far as I could remember, it was a spur of the moment thing. Someone just went into the latrine. Can’r remember who. I thought wouldn’t it be funny to see the reaction of someone doing business to see his own shit bucket from been pulled right off his pants? It was really comical thinking back. Once again, I do not know why I did it. Just for fun and at the moment I guess.

  5. Hey Jimmy!

Fascinating list, my friend. The shit bucket? Man… that was priceless. I couldn’t stop laughing on that one. :D There was a lot of other cool stuff though. The Christian School, the serial drinker (another hilarious moment with the term paper) the national guard; man you’ve had a full life if nothing else. That in itself is a blessing.

I think my favorite one though, was the last one. I could certainly relate to you there. The only difference is, the beginning of my half was very eventful. There are days I wonder how I even made it to be 34. The way the story went I certainly wasn’t meant to make it. Glad I did though. :)

I really enjoyed learning more about you though. Thanks for sharing.

Oh and BTW, the picture of you ROCKS bud!! That’s one helluva smile! :D

You rock too! We can all rock together and make this world a better place right?

You, Fred and Melody are certainly interested in the shit bucket incident, huh?

Have you done a similar post like this? Maybe you can point me there if you had?

  6. Wonderful post Jimmy!

Sure is so nice to know more about you and its great that you took the idea from Janet, whose post motivated me as well, though I still have to chalk down random things about myself!

It is indeed wonderful to learn more about the person behind this blog, and it sure brings us closer to be able to connect with you. You sure have gone through a lot in your life and this is what makes you a much stronger and better person than before. I prefer seeing the positiveness in the bad or hard times we come across in our lives. As that is what makes us what we are today.

Even the times when you were with your father in the small rural village, I am sure you must have learnt something that is put to use now in your life. Similarly, every life experience whether good or bad, always teaches us some lesson along the way, which makes us the person we are today.

It sure is wonderful that you met the love of your life and are finally settled now. I guess your second part of life has just about started, so wishing you all the best with it. However, remember your first part also and learn lessons from that half, as they will take you a long way in life.

Thanks for sharing a part of yourself with all of us :)

    • HI Harleena,

It sure feels as if things are just starting out again for my family and I. My second half of life. I am excited that I am finally writing my own story now. Nobody told me that I could do this for 35 years. What a shame and waste?

I do not have much memory of my child hood really. All I can remember is times were not too good and I was always infringing on things because of my playful nature. My sense is that I would be able to draw out more secrets and relatedness if I have some form of pyshic help. I should do that one of these days to really release somethings that I might not be aware of.

BTW, I hope you get your own post done for all of us to see as well.

      Cheers

  7. Hey Jimmy,

I agree with everyone else, great list you put together and I’m go glad Janet’s post inspired you to do one yourself.

So we got to learn a lot more about you. Ah, what a ladies man you are! So glad you finally found Miss Right and you guys have a wonderful family now. I love the photo of all of you (saw it earlier on your site).

You have led an interesting life up until now. Having accomplished everything that you have, I can see your drive and determination to continue on. I have no doubt that in some way you can change the world. It all starts with us right! We may be seen as “the little people” but we are the ones that are able to take it to a new level.

Thank you for this wonderful post Jimmy and for sharing more about you with us. It’s a great way to really feel connected.

    Enjoy your day my friend.

Adrienne recently posted..How To Stop Those Unwanted Solicitors In Their TracksMy Profile

    • Hi Adrienne,

I did not actively sought ladies in my life. In fact, I was one shy person in my high school and college days. I did not really start dating seriously until I finished college. Somehow after that I bumped from one relationship to the next. WIth each one, my confidence grew. But I was always one who craves companionship. When I saw many of my friends getting married in their 30s, I also ‘forced’ myself to get married. Unfortunately, it was to the wrong girl and I had to break it off. But I have always wondered how do we know we have met the right one for us.

I like to view my life in two halves. One regretable one that has brought me to the lowest point in my life. The other half I am only beginning to actively create on my own. No one guided me. I was one of those who hit the wall and dug myself out and realized so many good things that my life could be. I am determine to live that life and make a dent in the universe as Steve Jobs so eloquently put it.

    • My pleasure in sharing all these with you all, Adrienne.

My ladies’ man abilities is a late blooming phenomenon. I did not have any girl friends till after college. But once the first one came, it was like a queue waiting for me. They were most short relationships. I think I was exploring what is love. But I always know that I have to let go when something internal feels not right. But there were too many occasions I did not have the right explanation for my exs. It was just a feeling of something is not right. Mind you I was also on the receiving end of break ups with no reasons. It does hurt and leave a lot of questions.

  8. Love the shit bucket comment, Jimmy. The line “That I would like to delete from my inspired life” made me laugh out loud.

I like number 23: In all that I do, I believe in the service of others that will bring me all that I need in this world. My mission is to be used for the betterment of society.

I couldn’t agree more. I truly don’t focus on what I get out of things (but I also end up benefiting), but rather on what I can do. And I keep getting more and more opportunities to be of service. What a wonderful way to live!

Thanks for letting us get to know you better.

    Hugs!

    • Haha Melody,

You, Fred and Deeone were really intrigued by my shit bucket act. I was and still is a very playful and fun loving person. Nothing beats the thrill of trying to get away with hideous crimes. I did numerous things when I was young in the kampong but I don’t know why the shit bucket incident stayed with me. It must have been the look of the person who came out of the loo chasing me.

Our service to mankind is the only sure way to help others and ourselves grow.

    • Yes Melody,

I think we are all in agreement that service of others lead to greatness and abundance. Such a simple formula for people to gain success in life.

Oh BTW, you are also in agreement with Fred, Deeone with the shit bucket thing. Somehow I feel that you all are all connected in your vibes.

    • Hi Justin,

My favourite sports teams are the LA Lakers, Vancouver Canucks. No particular alligence to any NFL or MLB teams but I just enjoy watching these games whenever I have the opportunity. I find that Amercian sports is a wonderful because so much good information and technical knowledge is exchanged during the games. Fans are very knowledgeable and appreciative unlike the numerous hooligan style fans from European Football.

  9. Hi Jimmy,

I enjoyed reading these 25 tips about you. You taught sports for 15 years? Wow, this is amazing. Also, you are trained in NLP? I would love it if you can write various posts about it. ;) Thanks for sharing Jimmy, keep up the excellent work my friend

Thank you for your kind words, and I am happy you find it interesting learning about me. I would like to reciprocate as well if you can point me to such a post. You of all people have an even more interesting life.

So the NBA lock out is still ongoing?

    • Hi Chadrack,

I think my autobiography can wait a little. Now I just want to do things that will help others. My own situation is in need of shoreing up too but I still have faith that many good things will come our way as long as we reach out to help others.

  10. Hi Jimmy,

I read Janet’s post like this so was keen to read about you too. Life is a a journey for all of us and yours has been varied and interesting quite obviously. :)

We learn via the contrast we experience in our lives and yours will have brought you to the perfect place where you are right now Jimmy. That’s always worth celebrating.

Let me say if someone had puked on my assignment due for submission on the day I would have found that very challenging to deal with. Ha ha.

    • Hi Marcus,

I like your controlled reaction to my puking over my friend’s assignment. That’s truly staying positive under all circumstances. If I can recall correctly, my roommate could do nothing much when that happened. Wait the minute, he even cleaned up the mess for me. What a man. We are still friends.

My experiences thus far has brought me to this confluence. I have learnt to appreciate what life has thrown at me and given me as well. These day’s I always recite Viktor Frankl’s searching question: “What is life asking of me?” I find that very soothing and it is a great way to help us focus on what needs to be done in a positive manner.

Thanks for your kind words, my friend.

  11. Hey Jimmy,

I really feel as if I got to know you through this list here. You put together a lot of interesting things about yourself. I found it especially interesting that you are trained in NLP. I know quite a bit about that subject, but I’m not trained in it. I think it’s cool that you want to meet Richard Branson. That would be an unforgettable experience for me too.

It’s good to get to know the person behind the writing. Thanks for sharing so much about yourself.

  12. Hi Jimmy,
Great list. Love getting to know you better this fun way.
My hubby, Alan, is an avid skier. Skies Park City in Salt Lake City quite often; going there again next month. I’m not a skiier.

  13. Jimmy, aloha. So glad that my post inspired you to write this and so glad that you let me know you did.

Jimmy, what I so appreciate about this post is your candor and how you have learned from your lessons to move forward.

There is no doubt i my mind, Jimmy, that you are making a difference in the world–one person at a time. The great news is that as you impact one person for the better that person can likewise to the same. You are not doing it all by yourself rather it is an ever widening web woven by those who dare, those who care, those who want more. Congratulations on your excellent work.

Something else that is so important for people to understand, Jimmy, is that where we start has little to do with where we finish. Our lives are all about the choices we make which is why we must choose wisely.

Best wishes to you, my friend, for a terrific week ahead. Aloha. Janet

    • Thank You Janet for your kinds words and encouragement.

You are right, what we do in life has pay it forward effective. Our work might only impact a few persons, but there is no telling what these people can go on to do in their lives. That is something that has sustained me all these years in my teaching career. It is the faith that we have sown good seeds that will germinate into full bloom for the great of society.

I take you advice on where we start to heart. There is little point in bemoaning what we have or do not have. All life calls for us is to start and we will find the resources along the way. I have no doubt that we will be provided for abundantly by our great God.

  14. Very nice list Jimmy :D

I always love to know more about bloggers and how they live their lives. It’s good to know your story from the beginning till today. I must say that I’d do the same post like this when I set my blog up. An interesting idea!
