The Enlightened Being – 8 Ways to Recognize this Being

Are you and Enlightened Being?

Enlightened BeingAre you an enlightened being? Have your ever consider this question for yourself as you go on your personal development journey? Is there such a person in this world? History would say that there are many enlightened being in this world. Buddha, Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Jesus are just some of the obvious ones.

A check on the dictionary reveals that the word ‘enlightened’ means ‘to give intellectual or spiritual light to; instruct; impart knowledge to’. Thus an ‘enlightened being is someone who is capable to instruction because of the some form of higher perspectives gained. What can these higher perspectives be?

The enlightened being possesses the following eight higher perspectives that enable them to give and instruct others for a higher order life.

8 Ways to Recognize the Enlightened Being

1. Recognizes limiting beliefs within
An enlightened being has come to terms with his own limiting beliefs. In fact, he has come to recognize that human potential is limitless, which makes him unbounded by the cuffs of yesterdays. Because of this freedom from imposed limiting beliefs, he is able to achieve more in life if given the time and space to develop.

2. Living in the moment
The enlightened being no longer allow the past to hold him back nor the uncertainty of the future to discourage him. Her sole purpose is to live in the moment and do what she could with what she has. Worrying about the results is pointless because at each moment, she knows that she has given her best. When all is done, she lets the supreme universe to bring forth the fruits of her labor.

3. Seeking to contribute
The enlightened being seeks first to contribute with what he is trying to do. The reason behind all his personal development and efforts is to bring forth a better world by contributing to help others achieve more in live. It is the soul of the enlightened being to be selfless in their approach to life.

4. Living successfully each day
The enlightened being, defines her successes on a daily basis. These are small steps towards the overall larger end objectives in her life. But she recognizes the need to live successfully each day and not over stretch herself. Her main goal is to complete the small steps that will move her closer to her goals each day.

5. Greater RAS Awareness
The enlightened being is able to bring laser sharp focus into his life to achieve what he wants. With this laser sharp focus, he is able to hone his Reticular Activating Senses (RAS) in his brain much more. Hence, his radar picks up more queues that can lead him to his desires faster.

6. Value self-love
The enlightened being seeks first to love and improve herself so that she is able to give more to others in her sphere of influence. She lives by the philosophy of “I will take care of myself for you.” This might seem to contradict the point about seeking to contribute to others, but in reality, self love grows a person much more for more giving and contribution.

7. Purposeful goals
The enlightened being is aware and aligned to his higher calling and mission in life. It is about making use of his passion and talent to do more good than harm to the world he lives in. Each day will not past without the enlightened being doing something that will take him closer to his higher goals to make this world a better place.

8. Not following the crowd
Enlightened being does not care about the trends of the multitudes. She is purpose and self driven by intrinsic goals that bring immense fulfillment and satisfaction to her life. These goals may or may not be similar to what the majority of people are after. What allows the enlightened being to follow her ways is the inner compass that directs her towards self satisfactory goals.

  1. I would say without doubt that we are all enlightened Jimmy but most can’t recognise it being stuck fast in the human existence of survival and physical toil. For the large part of the world living and keeping going is the priority but what a sea change their lives would go through if they could spark some awareness of more about them – an enlightened seer, a sage in human form, a spirit of fire and possibility, a spark of creation merely awaiting permission to be. Your list shows where that special soul resides and will help others begin to discover that there is more about them and thus their potential is unlimited, if not their lives. Peace my friend!

    • Thank you John for having that great belief that we are all enlightened beings. It is only up to each and everyone of us to discover that secret and to be unleashed in life. One of the great mysteries to me has always been asking “Why do some people get it while some never?” I guess I would not sign up for this class to find out. Best to leave some of these mysteries to be resolved at it own time.

  2. I’ve given a lot of thought about what it means to be englightened. It’s such a hard term to define, but I think you described it pretty well. And I think you got a good list about being englightened going. I’d like to add that someone who is englightened has acceptance of himself and the world. I think acceptance can help acquire wisdom and build personal growth.

  3. Hi Jimmy,

8 Very important steps to develop ourselves. Living in the moment is a big one. Once we focus on one task and in the present, we are free from the pain of the past and we are focusing all of our energy on the given task. This is very important. Keep up the good work Jimmy and thanks for sharing ;)

    • Dia,

If there is anything that can truly defines an enlightened being, it must be living in the moment. Only if we are able to live in the moment can we be effective in the other seven ways to becoming more enlightened.

  4. Hi Jimmy,
As I am reading your post I am saying “yes” to everyone of your 8 ways. :)
Seriously though, I would have to say that not following the crowd resonates with me the most. I have been somewhat of a pioneer when it comes to trends in personal development.

I usually get this pull to try something that I would not normally do, like Yoga, tai chi, meditation or anything like that.

    • Hi Justin,

You brought out something about following the crowd that I would like to elaborate on. When we were kids, there was a time when we started becoming conscious of ourselves right? We began to subconsciously follow the trends and crowds. I think that is also the time when we started to believe that this world has its limitations. Some people never got out of that stage. Very few emerge from a life of being one of the boys.

  5. Interesting post, Jimmy. I think that I do some of the 8 things you mention some of the time, but I definitely wouldn’t call myself an enlightened being yet!

I think the title “being who’s realised that enlightenment is possible, and is now starting on the long journey of getting there” is probably a more accurate – if far less catchy! – title for myself :-)

    Blessings

    • Hi Tanja,

      Welcome to Life Architects.

You are far too modest with yourself. I think we can all be enlightened beings if we truly make the effort. Those eight points that I mentioned are not divine qualities. If I have learnt anything that is worth it it is the fact that divinity and enlightenment if for any human being to experience. It is an ongoing experience – one we should all be proud of to take.

    • Nancy, you are such a wonderful supporter. I am honoured that you actually printed this out to refer to it.

Each and everyday I strive to be in all these ways I have shared. I believe that they are the essence of the enlightened beings. In this world we spend so much time searching when in fact things are pretty simple. Once again, life is simple, we made it complex.

  6. Hello Jimmy,

I am wondering how you arrived at this list? Meaning, what has made you come to these conclusions on what an enlightened person is?
Also, have you considered carefully the dictionary definition of enlightenment? Do you think it is pointing to truth?

Does an enlightened person require further “personal development”? What “goals” does an enlightened person then try to “achieve” if they have already “attained” enlightenment? Does an enlightened person really have “laser-sharp focus,” or are they instead simply living out of spirit and thus in accord with life?

Does the enlightened person really “seek” self love? Or do they BECOME love?

I am curious. I thank you for your consideration!

    Respectfully,

    • Hi Lauren,

First of all welcome to Life Architects and thank you for this comment that sought many other perspectives to the enlightened being.

How I arrive at this eight ways is mainly through my own experience and those that I have read about. You would probably have noticed that my style of writing and content is not really towards the spiritual dimensions whereby Zen like concepts like become a cosmic figure or becoming Love itself. I feel that in our practical society, there are things in the personal development realm that we can undertake to bring us closer to enlightenment which is really about living a life that seek first to give and do good unto others.

Even if someone has reached enlightenment status, I think that growth for such as person will still be endless, hence personal development will not end. Perhaps only the universe will be able to bring complete closure to the world we live in. Until then, we are all potential vehicles to accomplish all the good that is required in this world.

In terms of laser sharp focus, I believe that it is possible and at the same time, living out of spirit come be one state for higher achievements. One way true human potentials are fulfilled is when people are able to muster all their resources to overcome challenges. And in the human world that is absolutely possible to do so with laser like focus.

Thank you for your points and I really appreciate where you are coming from. You have given me new light and enlightenment in this subject too.

      Cheers
